A: Under most circumstances "Yes", however, less expensive does not mean cheaper quality.

A: Most times, but not always. We pride ourselves on being competitively priced, professional post frame builder, building #1 pole barns with quality materials and outstanding workmanship. However, when comparing your pole building quotes make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
Q: How is an S & L Building constructed?
A: Our typical pole buildings consist of a clear span truss system supported by two columns / posts which is braced by an interlocking system of purlins, girts and metal or wood sheating. These columns / posts are either embedded in the ground a minimum of forty inches or surface mounted to a previously built concrete wall or floor.
Q: What are your normal column / post spacing?
A: Normally 8 feet on centers, it depends on vertical loads and / or door spacing's.
Q: Will I need a level building site for my building?
A: Pretty close; it should be no more than 10 – 12 inches off level, which can easily be filled in after your building is erected.
Q: Will I be able to pour a concrete floor?
A: Yes; our bottom skin-board is a 2" X 6" which will be placed so the top of the skirt-board will be the level of the top of your concrete floor.
Q: Does S & L Builders pour concrete floors?
A: Yes we do but only in certain areas. It depends if we have a work crew close to your area. Don't be afraid to ask.
Q: What type of posts does S & L use for columns?
A: We use a glu-lam, which is a laminated 3-ply 2x6 or 4-ply 2x8 which make either a 5x6 or a 6x8 post, depending on the size of your building.
Q: Is a glu-lam better than a solid treated post?
A: In our opinion, Yes, a glu-lam will stay straighter, it won't twist and it has a nicer, cleaner appearance.
Q: What type of roofing do you use?
A: Metal or shingles, of which you can get numerous styles, however metal is by far the most popular for pole buildings.
Q: What are the specifications on your standard metal roofs?
A: Our standard is a 29 ga. AZ-50 galvalume with Valspar WeatherX paint system, which is one of the best on the market today. It also has a 40 yr. warranty.
Q: Does S & L place vapor barrier under the metal roofing?
A: That is an option we have, the largest percent of the buildings we built have it. We normally use a bubble foil.
Q: Will I need to pay additional taxes on my building?
A: No, not to us, the taxes will all be included in your quoted price, but you will be raising your property value.
Q: How long will it take for my building to be constructed after I sign the contract?
A: This will change, depending on time of year, weather, size of building and various other reasons. Typically, though, it usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks from when you sign the contract till your building is completed.
Q: What is the difference in standard design and bird-free design?
A: Our standard design is built with post set on 8' centers and trusses on 4" center with purlins spaced at 2'. The bird-free design, which is usually better for dairy or equine facilities for the anti-bird nesting and airflow reasons, is built with heavier columns spaced on 12' centers and laminated trusses set on top of columns and 2" x 6" purlins set on edge in metal brackets between the trusses.
